Harad Army

I finally finished my raiders and watchers of karna so put all my Harad army on the board for a happy snap or two (or ten)!

This post is just a whole lot of photos of the army, so bear with me =)

From a lower angle you can really see the height of the Mumak!

On this side we have all the normal foot soldiers.

Then there are the new raiders galloping along near the Mumak.

And the fell beast swoops over the lava near the Hasharin and Watchers.

And the blue dragon perched on the other flank.

Here I tried to get the raptor riding king more visible.

And looking down the line...

And from the other side...

So there you go, I started these guys years ago and wasn't going to have any cavalry, but then I got started on battle companies and these guys with their low defense really need the horses to help win!

I don't have any abrakhan guard, but do have some conversion ideas for them at some stage, maybe when I've finished my Far Harad battle company =)

One day I'll have to find enough time to do a bigger scale battle, I'm really pleased with how the colour scheme has matched and worked through all the miniatures. They look really nice on the table.

Just for fun (and probably not competitive, but just for ideas) here are some army lists I can do with these models:

300 Points:
Chieftain with horse and war spear accompanied by 6 raiders with war spear, 5 raiders with bow.
Chieftain accompanied by 4 warriors with spear, 4 with bow.

500 Points:
King with horse and war spear accompanied by 6 raiders with war spear, 6 with bow.
Chieftain accompanied by 12 warriors with spear.
Hasharin accompanied by 6 watchers of karna and 2 warriors with bow.

750 Points:
Chieftain with horse and war spear accompanied by 6 raiders with war spear, 2 with bow.
Hasharin accompanied by 4 watchers of karna and 8 warriors with spear.
War Mumak of Harad with Gnarled Hide, Rapelling Lines and Rocks and 12 warriors with bow.

Everything I have...
1156 Points:
King with horse and war spear accompanied by 6 raiders with war spear, 6 with bow
Hasharin accompanied by 6 watchers of karna, 7 warriors with spear, 1 warrior with banner
War Mumak with all upgrades and 12 warriors with bow
Betrayer on Fell Beast accompanied by 5 warriors with spear and 1 warrior with banner.

Note that when using the raiders I have to leave some of my miniatures off to one side to use as dismounts, hence there are more minis in the photos than in the lists.

And, of course, for just fun value you could add the dragon as a cave drake for 150 points or a dragon from 250-450 points depending on which upgrades you use!

Dwarf Army - Warband Edition

As has been noted, the new rules (actually, even the not so new rules, but waaaaaay back when there wasn't a warband structure so I'm slow to change!) are based on leaders with warbands of varying sizes.

So my son chose warbands for the leaders and we realised that I'm short a few captains for this type of army.

I may be missing something, but there doesn't appear to be a dwarf leader for rangers or archers so there are a few mixed bands there.

Feel free NOT to click to see larger pics this time, the close range shots aren't always pretty! You can see (hopefully) which dwarves I spent more time painting than others, also a skill level increase, oh, and just the ones that are better since washes were introduced!

Here's the dwarves in their warbands (you may need to click to see this at proper size as it's quite wide).

Durin with a lot of Khazad Guard, a banner, some Iron Guard and some Vault Wardens. As High King he has a powerhouse of a warband!

Etako is my special character/king so he gets a big warband too, though not as impressive as Durin's, of course. My son decided that all of the important dwarves should have at least two Khazad Guard accompanying them, so you'll notice behind each main leader there will be some Khazads. I think it's a nice touch.

The King's Champion band is smaller, with a mix of melee troops. I kept all my archers to two warbands rather than scattering them.

Boggle, the shieldbearer, has a squad of throwing axe rangers as they'll probably be rushing around to protect leaders.

One King/Captain has his two Khazad Guards and ten archers. I actually did a bit of fairly intricate work on painting this guy, there's some freehand on the bottom of his cloak etc. I don't think I have the eyesight to do that anymore!

Another King/Captain has the same set of troops.

And finally, Brynmor has a squad of two Khazads, a Vault Warden team, some shields and some 2-Handed guys. A multi-purpose squad. As long as the purposes involve closing with the enemy and chopping at them.

So there you go, I need another couple captains to get all my dwarf minis on the table. Not sure what to do about that at the moment. Not that we're likely to ever get them all on at once anyway! Still. Have to think about what to do. GW prices are a bit nuts, so might have to hit eBay and hope for a cheap dwarf miniature!

Dwarf Armies

So my son and I got out all my dwarf miniatures to see how many there were now that I've completed the King's Champion.

We arranged them according to type so that I could see them a bit more clearly (with some creative license thrown in to keep things at aleast a little interesting for a 7 year old).

There are:
Balin (who we call Etako).
Dain (who we often call Durin).
2 Dwarf Kings (We often use as captains).
Brynmor (Captain).
Boggle (Shieldbearer).
King's Champion.
14 Warriors with shield
10 Warriors with 2-H weapons
20 Warriors with bows
2 Warriors with banners
8 Rangers with throwing axes
8 Rangers with 2-H weapons
8 Rangers with bows
6 Iron Guards
5 Vault Warden teams
20 Khazad Guards

Click on the pics for bigger sizes as always!

Here are the Vault Wardens and Dain/Durin

Etako with some other Kings and the King's Champion

Some more of the previous, showing some of the line of Iron and Khazad Guard

The back section shows some of the shielded dwarves, warriors and rangers.

Continuing along you can see the main body of axes

Here on the other side are more shields and bows in the back row.

And lastly a sort of side shot to show off the new banners =)

So there you go, roughly 1700 points depending on some of the options for the Kings etc. I know there are bigger armies out there, but I quite like how you can just paint and paint for a while and then put them all together to look pretty cool =)

Next up I need to finish painting some goblin prowler conversions and then do the same for my goblin army!

Monsters Mash

Well, here's an actual playable monster army. Playable in terms of having the models, not necessarily that it's any good! As a matter of fact, with no archery, it's unlikely to do well in some match-ups. It is, however, guaranteed to be a heck of a lot of fun!

It's 712 points without the balrog, so add another 400 points for those larger games. I'd actually like to get the new goblin that improves the spiders too as well as a few more wild wargs, another warg chieftain (one for the brown ones and one for the grey ones) and maybe a Nazgul, or a Nazgul on horse... or a Nazgul on Fellbeast... oh, and a cave drake!

Apologies for the hideous lighting. You can tell it's awful when two wargs painted identically look such different colours!

Anyway, here's Buhrdur's warband. Three cave trolls, two wild wargs. Technically illegal because for some reason there are no wild wargs in Angmar. The cave trolls look a little shiny because I gave them a couple of layers of protective coating. It's a matt coating, but still is a little reflective. On the plus side it should diminish the number of paint chips (I've already had to do some touching up and they're only relatively new models!)

These guys will be subtle. Move forward. Engage foes. Whack foes with big weapons. The sooner they can be in combat against the enemy the better. Preferably Buhrdur will go for the hero if possible as with some might he stands a chance against them.

Druzhag has the spiders with him for the moment, though they'll get palmed off (maybe) in the future. He's got the brown wargs with him, two bat swarms and five spiders. Druzhag will use his spell on the bats, the one that improves their stats for a single turn but that also damages them. They'll hero-hunt either for tying them up (four wounds takes a couple turns to finish off) or for maybe even doing some damage if they are spelled up. The wargs and spiders with their super movement will be good at nipping off to flanks or to take far off objectives. Also technically illegal at 13 members, will probably just move a warg to the warg chieftain's warband at the start of the game. If I get the spider-enhancing goblin the spiders will join him instead.

The warg chieftain and his force will also be good for flank attacks and objectives. The chieftain himself is overpriced for a hero, but well priced for a maneuverable minion killer.

And the whole army...

So I've taken what to most people are fairly useless models (underskilled or overpriced) and put them together into a great fun army! Not saying it'll be any good except for fun =)

The basics are simple. Druzhag hates goblins but loves beasts. Buhrdur loves roaming around looking for trouble. The Wild Warg Chieftain is just a nasty piece of work. Why wouldn't they want to rampage their way somewhere? It's such a small number of models, what could possibly go wrong?

What do you get when you have an hour spare?

I got a nice eBay cheap pack of 52 goblins. Lots of the spears broke in the postage and some of them are so heavily undercoated that there's no detail left, but it was still a super bargain! (Insist on good quality pictures and descriptions!)

For my birthday I wanted to play a game of SBG and since we've had lots of dwarves lately I figured it was only fair to play goblins. And when I say goblins, I wanted to field only goblins.

Problem: My brother now has 820 points under the new warband system. I only had Durburz, three captains and Druzhag.

Solution: convert a couple of the new goblins into captains!

So meet my two new captains! Just a bit of greenstuff on the skin to turn it into chainmail, a spiffy "rock" to stand on and some bronze shoulderpads... took about an hour all up (simple paintjob, just basecoat, wash, highlight).

I'll take a proper photo tomorrow during our game, but they're nicely distinguishable from the other goblins, though obviously not as good as my other metal captains.

I have 28 painted of each type of goblin, plus a set of drums, three captains with shields, two captains with bows, Druzhag, Durburz and one metal mini with spear (who I'll use as Durburz's bodyguard - though rule him the same as a normal mini although I guess I could turn him into a Blackshield... hmm...)

Anyway, that leads me to the goblin horde...

Sorry for the dodgy pic, better tomorrow I promise.
Seven warbands, 90 goblins =)

Durburz, Drums, five spears, four shields.
Shar'lok (Shaman), six spears, six shields.
Jornik, Lurnik and Varnik the triplets (Captains with shield), six spears, six shields each.
Kar'cha and Nar'po (Captains with bow), twelve archers each.

(Druzhag will be just a normal shaman for tomorrow, which gives me 810 points worth of green goblin goodness.)

I'll probably be having too much fun to blog it tomorrow, but I'll at least try to remember to post a pic.

Wish me luck! (Lots of it!)

P.S. I already know that I should have a cave troll (or two), some wargs, bats or spiders for movement, maybe some more magic... I WANNA PLAY WITH JUST GOBLINS!!! So that's what I'm gonna do =)

Space Wolves Army

Haven't used the computer in a while, hence the lack of posting!

Baby is still only letting us sleep a little at night and keeps me busy all day long, except for Mondays which are filled with getting uni stuff done!

As a result, I haven't done anything for aaaaaaaages miniatures wise.

Here's a picture I took a long time ago...

It's my whole army (except for the scouts)!

Clicky for the bigger version...

A: First command group. Wolf Lord plus four Wolf Guard Terminators.
B: Second command group. Wolf Guard Battle Leader plus three Wolf Guard Terminators.
C: First Grey Hunter pack of 9 plus a Wolf Guard in Power Armour to lead them.
D: Second Grey Hunter pack of 9 plus a Wolf Guard in Power Armour to lead them.
E: Third Grey Hunter pack of 6.
F: Fourth Grey Hunter pack of 6 with a Wolf Guard in Power Armour to lead them.
G: Lone Wolf with Wolf companion.
H: First Long Fangs group with pack leader.
I: Second Long Fangs group with pack leader.
J: Venerable Dreadnought and Droppod.

And, of course, there's also a scout squad with Wolf Guard to add to that.

Really sorry for the lack of progress, but life has just been waaaaaay too busy to get anything done bar survival. Things will get better =)

Final Army List and Cyclone Missile Launcher Conversion.

Well, have been on a little holiday, so sorry about the absence of recent posts.
On the plus side I got my next (and last) delivery of miniatures!

Last because GW have decided to try and force us to continue paying exorbitant prices for our miniatures (about 200% of overseas costs) by restricting sales to Australia from overseas.

I'm sure some eBay shenanigans will ensue, but in the meantime I'm all set anyway.

On the negative, my brother needs to save up for a new computer, so his army will be stalled for a while =(

Still, now I have an army list that I will share for your amusement. Why amusement? Because it's to look nice put together and to enjoy painting etc. rather than for any actual combat effectiveness.

I know I haven't done the backstory I keep promising, but suffice it to say that these guys are expert subterranean fighters and hence don't use tanks and heavy vehicles. They will use drop pods to get to the right places on a planet to head underground.

So I've sort of split the army into two divisions.

First Division: Skodi leads...

Wolf Lord in terminator armour with dual claws (Skodi, you've already seen in action).

4 Wolf Guard Terminators as his bodyguard -
Hammer and Shield, Storm Bolter and Wolf Claw, Storm Bolter and Power Fist, Assault Cannon and Frost Sword.

Pack 1 - 9 Grey Hunters plus a Wolf Guard Pack Leader in Power Armor, combi-melta and powerfist. Pack has a melta, a power weapon, a wolf standard and a mark of the wulfen.

Pack 2 - 6 Grey Hunters, one with plasma gun.

Pack 3 - 4 Long Fangs (2 missile launchers, 2 lascannons) and a pack leader.

Second Division: to be announced leads...

Wolf Guard Battle Leader in terminator armour with dual frost axes.

3 Wolf Guard Terminators as his bodyguard -
Storm Bolter and Thunder Hammer, Storm Bolter and Frost Sword, Storm Bolter and Powerfist with Cyclone missile launcher.

Pack 1 - 9 Grey Hunters plus a Wolf Guard Pack Leader in Power Armor, storm bolter and thunder hammer. Pack has a melta, a power weapon, a wolf standard and a mark of the wulfen.

Pack 2 - 6 Grey Hunters, one with plasma gun.

Pack 3 - 4 Long Fangs (2 missile launchers, 2 plasma cannons) and a pack leader.

Auxiliary Elites:

Loki the Venerable Dreadnought, Heavy Flamer and Multi-melta.

Lone Wolf in terminator armour with chainfist, shield and wolf companion.

"Extra" wolf guard with combi-plasma and thunder hammer (for bringing squads up to number if needed).

Scouts, 5 with a Wolf Guard Pack Leader in power armour, combi-melta and thunder hammer. Scouts have a Melta, Power Weapon, Plasma Pistol and mark of the wulfen.

Roughly 2200 points all up, depending on extras like sagas and meltabombs etc.

The first Division is 905 points, second is 765.

From this I can mix and match squads and elites to field all sorts of different armies.

Have started putting together the next five terminators (how could I refuse!)

I didn't have a cyclone missile launcher, but had a leftover missile launcher from the drop pod, so with a bit of greenstuff I'll save myself some more money...

Here's the Wolf Guard Battle Leader. I wanted him striding purposefully forward with axes slightly wide, kinda like the Dwarf Champion from LotR SBG. I had to do some cutting and pasting of axe bits to get it to work and will need to greenstuff some bits where the arms attach to get the pose right, as you can see by the blu-tac.

Here's a powerfist and storm bolter guy. I want to keep each wolf guard unique, so they've all got a different weapon load-out. This is sort of the traditional terminator look.

Here is the power sword guy, raised as though ready to strike down and the thunder hammer guy in just a sort of interesting pose, at least I thought so. I've also tried to keep all of them fairly open, not covering their chests and looking as though they're really not caring about any laser shots or boltgun shells pinging from their armour as they stride forward or launch their attacks.

And here's the cyclone missile launcher guy. I'll take a side on shot later, but basically I've got him so that he looks quite dynamic from the front, from the side you can see that his body leans forward, with the missile pod to the rear in such a way that the center of gravity is still above his feet. Like he's leaning forward under the weight of the missiles a bit.

Oh, and the three terminators accompanying the new leader have termie helmets, the other four are bare-headed. Just another way to distinguish them a little. I figured the missile launcher guy needed the face protection for the exhaust! Also that these terminators are slightly less senior ranked than the ones accompanying the Wolf Lord. Or something.

A wedge of greenstuff under the missile pod, when painted, will hopefully not look too out of place.

Back view. I plan on adding purity seals or wolf tails or something to cover up any joining mishaps.

Anyway, there you go, a bit of kit bashing to make a cyclone missile launcher from bits I had lying around!

As always, progress will depend on the sleeping habits of a four and a half month old (which is mainly very little sleep still).
